Wrap up and the future of the Deaf Government Employees

Hello!  I’d like to make a recap of what’s been happening during the past month.  It has been a tough time but I am sure we all have learned something and thought of different ideas on how to improve the doings of DHHIG for the future.

If you’d remember when DHHIG first sent out the Call of Nominations letter for the election during NTC, it wasn’t really fair to all of us.  We, the members, got together and sent a letter of concern to the DHHIG Board.  The next morning, DHHIG’s website had a poster of a crab.  That was insulting to us.  We felt we needed some sort of a platform for us to be able to voice our concerns and that is how the “Changes for the Deaf Government Employees” website came to be.

Now think back to the very first vlog by Deborah which shared a little bit about the crab poster.  Next, a pair of vloggers, the first-a lady- summarized the 6, err. actually 7 points of concerns in our letter of concern; and the second- a man who talked about the response we received from the DHHIG board and that our current issues not really being resolved.

Next was Brian Lucas who talked about Opening the Door.  Later that day, DHHIG finally posted the availability of the standing committees, which was a bit too late and doesn’t give us all enough time since the election is coming soon.

Socorro Garcia’s vlog was next regarding Value Your Members.  The members of DHHIG are very important and are essential to the success of the organization.  The vlog about transparency came next.  Transparency is also essential to the operations of the organization.  If members see that the organization or the Board needs help, they will be more than willing to help out.  If the members cannot see what is going on inside then how would they know their help is needed?

Lastly, Earl Allen stated what the By-Laws were and you all are aware there are issues regarding the By-Laws.  We all need to be proactive and write down ideas and/or suggestions for new By-Laws.   There are also several issues/problems inside the organization which need to be resolved so that DHHIG can achieve its mission.

Now that you’ve seen all those issues, please hope that the new Administration would pick up and resolve these issues so that DHHIG can become more effective.

Information about the upcoming election can be found on the DHHIG website.  Go check it out and if you’re interested in running for one of the positions on the Board, go for it!  Our website, CFDGE, will have an unofficial list of those candidates who would be running in the election.  If you’re interested in being on our list, feel free to contact us at our email address which’s listed on our website.   We will be sure to keep the website updated on the election.

We encourage you all to become involved, vote, and go to the NTC conference.  Vote at the conference.  It is time for you all to be proactive and make a difference by voting the right people in!

Thank you.
