NOTE- some photos were uploaded from DHHIG.org website
Hello -
As you all might know, John Olumoya resigned as Chair of the DHHIG due to personal reasons. Now we have new officers which’s exciting and would be excellent to work with from now on.
First is Yael Agriss as the new Chair. Next, the Vice Chair position as of now is vacant but Yael has promised to appoint someone to the position soon as possible. Would that be you??
The treasurer is Stephanie Philips and the secretary is Gail Edwards. We also have five Board Members At Large who are: Lee Smith, Jeff Salit, Pam Baldwin, Kevin Ball, and Tom Hattaway.
The IPC, Immediate Past Chair, continues to be Heidi Burghardt. All those 10 Board members are excellent to work with.
Now, I’ve been attending the last few Board meetings and noticed there’s a lack of Members at the meetings. I understand many of you may go straight home after work to be with families or have other commitments. So I got to thinking on how to get you all involved and thought of something. We can ask Yael to videotape the meetings and then post the videos online so all of you can access when you need and at your own pace. What do you think?
We will send a letter to Yael and see if she’d consider the request so that way we’d get you all, the members, more involved within DHHIG.
Thank you.

That’s a great idea and the first step towards making sure that DHHIG fulfills the role of serving the members and making sure that all Deaf/Hard of hearing have what is needed to be able to work effectively.
I see the new Vlog is up on the site, GREAT BEGINNING!
I do have one area that I disagee with you. It is not all “roses.” There has been issues getting DHHIG’s money and supplies transferred back to the rightful hands, the old Chair is holding on to the money for some reason.
Some of the current board members, seem to have problems recognizing Yael as the new Chair/President and seem to be withholding from her the assistance that they volunteered by missing meetings (with excuses), and not facilating transferral of DHHIG’s legal supplies, materials paid for by the Goverment.
I hope this issue is rectified soon before it becomes a “crippler” for DHHIG.

Frankly- as a member, I’m concerned to the fact that the “old” board members becoming too attached to this organization. They are making decisions based on their personal opinions/agenda rather than making decisions that are in best interest of DHHIG’s members. Many of these “old” members missed a lot of meetings. They were elected in by the members yet, they represent themselves and their “friends”.
John’s resignation took most of us by surprise. To my understanding-based on the recently DHHIG meeting video that was briefly posted on the DHHIG.org website but taken down, he has not release all of DHHIG documents. I watched Jeff Rosen’s comment during the meeting, one of John’s excuses is that he has some personal things attached to the DHHIG documents. To me, that is totally unacceptable since DHHIG is its own entity and no one has such business to make it theirs or mix personal stuff into it. I really find it very sad, that the DHHIG has to spend most of its energy and resources in their pursuit of getting all of the information rather than serve its mission.

I am very glad that concerned members can clearly see the issues. We have been fighting to make DHHIG more transparent and more in line with what the Vision Statement and Goals represent.
We are meeting roadblocks at nearly every turn. One step forward with the VLOG and then two steps back when it had to be removed for some “complaints.”
By time this group’s time is up, we may have accomplished NOTHING and DHHIG will return to the former hands that held the reins….Unless we can get the word out and get people involved!

Its really sad that some people are working behind the scene trying to pull down other people’s desire to get things accomplished.
In this case, Mrs. P in DOT and few other people complained that the videos were not “508 friendly”.
Rather than chipping in to help with writing the captions, they complain!

If this is true, our first attempt OPEN DHHIG and make it transparent so that members have a chance get their needs met has been blocked.
This should be an “eye-opener” for many. It shows the lengths to which the “old guard” may go to make sure that DHHIG does not become transparent. The new VC is trying to make a difference. Will we let those who seek to make DHHIG fail succeed? Will we let it fall back into their hands by sly words whispering promises that they have no intention of keeping?
I encourage you to watch this board carefully for news and voice your concerns. Make sure your friends/other members are aware of what is happening.
DHHIG is the only non-profit organization that hasn’t grown since it’s inception! Even NBDA has other chapters, regions!! Will we let a few short-sighted keep us forever on the floor?? Under the right leadership, not promises we can do so much MORE!

The information should be in the Minutes of the meeting and posted for the members. If there is no information in the minutes then I would wonder why.
I did not attend, I had a prior appointment. I hope a report is put up soon about the attendance happenings in there.
